Meet The Faces Behind Farwes Homes Ltd.

I’m Ruth Farkas, proud co-owner of Farwes Homes Ltd. with my husband, Steve.

I look forward to sharing our story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know us better.

Steve worked for eighteen years at a local factory as a Design Draughtsman, while I recently retired after forty years of working with the local municipality. Together, we have been working on growing Farwes Homes Ltd. since 1985.

Back in 1975, Steve and I began building a single home for ourselves, and as we were working full-time jobs, we took some time to complete the project. However, it ignited a spark in us that we took advantage of. We were fortunate in finding a few building lots in our area that we were able to purchase and decided to build a home on each - one per year to sell. As Steve is a Design Draughtsman, he can produce the drawings for the homes rather than hiring an outside company to do the work, but we rely on tradespeople to get the job done. 

A lot has changed over the years for us, starting with the ease of access to tradespeople. Back when we began, it was easy to get tradespeople, however, now they are in such high demand that we have to book them a long time in advance. For example, a well driller now is booking into the late summer of 2020.

Another change is back then the customers didn’t have much say in what went into the house being built. The accepted the design and didn’t make any changes. Now, the customers want to have a say in everything going into the home, and they are very knowledgeable. 

We both thoroughly enjoy meeting all the new customers, and we try to give the best product possible within a customer’s budget. Our determination to deliver these results make handing over the keys to a client’s new home one of the most rewarding parts of our job. 

We are also delighted as we won an award in 2003 for the best R 2000 home built in Ontario for a house that was 4000 Sq. Ft. We believe that our perseverance, honesty, and integrity have earned us a favorable reputation and earned us our success. 

When we’re not building houses for others, we enjoy spending time with our four grandchildren. We are also active Dragon Boat paddlers with a few local clubs.
